Great story about that: I was on the phone with the talent agency and I was telling them I wanted our villain to sound like Jim Cummings and she said well he happens to be here today, so he read the script and said "you tell them they don't need someone that sounds like Jim Cummings, I'm in!" It legit feels like I just watched the train scene from Spirited Away processed through a hipster filter. Although, this is a school project so I'm gonna be more lenient with my review score and give back two points.

[Heatwave Episode 1]

This is so laughably bad. I thought these were being made in MS Paint but then upon closer examination, I discovered you are actually using Flash. I have no words to describe how utterly incompetent this is.

All you do is make shitty, two frame loops for all your animation. You can't even animate a real fight, which largely the only real appeal of Shonen anime. You can't even tween a fucking background set from right to left when your protagonist is walking through a town. The default framerate for Flash is twelve frames per second, what did you lower it to? Five frames per second?

Why does he sound like he's walking in auditorium when he's outside? You do know there's like a billion websites that offer free sound effects for this sort of shit, right?

I think the only thing more staggering than how utterly terrible all the visuals are is the unexpectedly high microphone quality. Too bad it doesn't help much since the acting is so God fucking awful. That fakey, bullshit laughter.

The artwork in this is completely, unacceptably, terrible. The men look like women. Learn how to draw a hand with proper proportions. In fact, learn how to draw the human body.

That glaring difference between the background art and foreground art is a sight often used to torture people with Graves' disease. Good to know you're not above Google searching for sky images and pasting them into your background.

It astounds me that you think you're entitled to one hundred subscribers on Youtube when you produce this sort of insulting garbage.

Even better, learn how use an aspect ratio that isn't 480p instead of artificially blowing it up to 720p by encasing your videos in a black box. [Lake Villa Vamps- Episode 1]

I was impressed... at the beginning...

The thing that kills it for me though is the really shitty resolution. It would've helped a lot if this were in higher quality or better yet an SWF file if you're using Flash.

The art and animation itself, however, leaves a lot to be desired on a technical scale. Thankfully it's active and intense enough to cover up this issue for the most part.

I also like how the episode started out strong with a massive, gory war before getting to the plot. That's a good way to grab the audience's attention; impress me first with the combat and keep me for the plot.

Unfortunately, all the things that covered up the bad animation & art are not present in the plot focused scenes that follow the opening action & the bad resolution doesn't help. Especially since all the dialog is done with these back & forth profile shots & no other angles.

Just to let you know, I'm being soft on this primarily because it reminds me of the days when Dead Rain still got new episodes... in 2004...

I actually agree with everything you said! But let me explain some stuff. You know when the clip says "10 days earlier"?

In real life, that's about 4 years earlier. I started this entire project 4 years ago! Before I uploaded it I went back and fixed a bunch of things, added in the opening war scene (which was done a few weeks ago) added in the kung fu shots and some other animation just to spruce it up, but 90% of what you're seeing was done a really long time ago!

That shot of the girls in the street is literally the very first thing I ever animated! So as the series goes on (it clocks in at about 3 hours total) you'll get to watch it evolve and get better and better, so I know these first few episodes are kinda rough, sounds choppy, animation is kinda lacking sometimes, but keep with it, pretty soon it all starts to even out, just stick with it : - )
