Anonymous user abusing review system to get Whistle Points

Attention everyone! I and my friend @Keisok have been tracking this guy for about a week now. He's been leaving waves of abusive reviews daily for about nine days now. All of his used accounts have been deleted by Tom Fulp yesterday but the perpetrator remains tenacious even now. To receive updates on the situation or if you're interested in collecting whistle points, follow me here on Newgrounds & get first dibs on the situation.

As you can see, the perp' always chooses edgy usernames. Their behavior is characterized by spamming the same review again & again with zero stars, choice "reviews" include:

"GAY NOOOOOOOOOOOB GAY NOOOOOOB GAY NOOOBbb"

"shit"

"Sucks black dick."

"HA,THIS SUCK ASSsssssss you n****r bitch bitch."

Here are his current accounts:

All of these alts were prepped months in advance and so far none of them are less than two month's old, meaning that the perpetrator is not creating a new account with each deletion. In fact, the perp' will ditch an alt long before the reviews are deleted or the account is closed & start leaving abusive reviews mere hours after using the last account; sometimes seven hours or fourteen hours. These accounts are not simply blank either, the perpetrator will go to significant lengths to hide the fact that the alt is not a genuine user by adding submissions to the account's favorites, occasionally leaving positive reviews, writing a blog post & customizing the alts' avatars & icons. You'll notice that this user's number of reviews from each account increases excessively in succession with few exceptions. We believe this is because the user is compiling a list of movies to abuse & is reusing the list as he build's onto it. The other reason we believe this is because this user has a habit of reviewing all the same movies with each new account, like so:

You may have noticed that this user also has a habit of targeting high profile movies, typically those featured on the front page. We believe this is because the user is using these alts for the purpose of collecting whistle points for their personal account & knowing that he cannot get the reviews removed on his own, he is relying on public attention to help him in getting them removed quickly. This repetitive behavior has not gone unnoticed, however. As stated earlier, Tom Fulp has personally deleted the majority of the aforementioned used accounts. However many more are left remains a mystery.

It appears that this repeat offender is long from finished & will continue his onslaught for an unforseeable time. Follow my account & stay up to date on the situation.

He's made his abusive reviews as high profile as possible to get them removed faster, which probably muddies the water on who's doing it since everyone is marking their reviews for abuse. I don't know if actually finding their identity is possible.

Mark them for abuse like normal. The faster they're wiped off the better. It's also important to mark them up so as to alert the staff about the issue as timely as possible.

Whoever is doing it, they prepared these alts several months in advance, typically customizing them as much as possible to make them look legitimate, which implies there's only a limited number of them. It's entirely possible that he's nearing the end of his supply.

It's possible he's using proxies like Hide My Ass so he might not get caught through IP.

EDIT: Just got word from Tom & yes, he is using a bunch of proxies. It appears this user isn't as dumb as I thought.

Hard to say. He's not saying anything I can explicitly point to in the review guidelines nor anything I can recall getting removed from experience. Most of them are one word reviews but not particularly offensive.

Considering how he's been getting away with this since June, I'm going to assume that a lot of people ended up with garbage whistles over this guy. His reviews are useless, not abusive. I have noticed a handful of reviews, however, that might count as abuse, such as when he just calls something garbage. There are occasions where he calls for the mods to remove a submission, which falls under the "Blam this!" rule. I noticed the further back you go on this guy's account, the more prone to abuse he is. Things like "your parents don't love you" count as insults toward the author. I'm pretty sure the ones where he's just saying "go away!" count but I wouldn't put chips on it.

This guy is what we call a mine field, since marking his borderline abusive reviews could backfire on you. Be careful & as picky as possible with this guy.

I'm going to ask Tom about this one since I'm still in touch with him.

Oh by the way, unspoken rule; if someone explicitly states that they didn't watch the movie before reviewing, that's cause for removal. Beware though, most mods will abide by this but it's not a requirement.

He used to have a couple reviews that said "Absolute shit" "THIS IS A FUCK",etc but they got removed. He used to have 382 reviews but only a few got deleted.

I see, he dumps abusive reviews but covers his ass with borderline ones. Blurring the line between useless & abusive appears to be his strategy.

It is strange. Probably another attempt at covering his ass. He might be afraid the staff will wipe out the rest of his reviews if he doesn't leave something good or maybe he's hoping to turn people away by using that as a first impression.

Just got the reply from Tom: "This one is a tough call because it seems like he is calling out a lot of genuinely bad stuff. We do want reviews to be more constructive than that but at the same time sometimes if something is crap and some people call it out as such, it's kinda reasonable."

A guy who dedicates his life to sloppily defacing NG submissions with sloppy reviews deserves a medal of some sort.

There's not even an art to what he does, I mean, he doesn't even create interesting destructive criticism and just goes around like a rabid cat on crack. I'd love to see his permanent facepalm he devolps later in life… that is if he ever grows up.

I can only say, as my partner has done most of the talking, that farming for whistlepoints like this is genuinely pathetic considering that whistles are still broken. Of all the things to farm, this is what he chose.

What he means is that you can't use whistles for their original purpose; reporting stolen movies and games. You can only use them to mark reviews for abuse.
