It's actually pretty simple when you think about it: flashes bring about too many downsides. They will load with the page, regardless of whether people want to see them. And then there's room for people to abuse the freedom of embed tags by linking to malicious movies outside of newgrounds, or write pieces of code that'll fuck with the browser. Streaming isn't prone to such abuse.

Couldn't we regulate that shit with a new mod team in the same way we did with Under Judgment content so users that try that shit would lose the privilege to post in their blogs like they would for reviews if they shitposted every review they wrote?
As for the part where it just loads with the page, who gives a shit? Photos will do that and you can be all kinds of malicious with those. You can make them meg heavy or just spam a bunch of them in your blog just to drain the bandwidth cap of some poor fuck using Wildblue.
Why bother with mods? The current News Posts allow for freedom of speech, and you want it to be regulated? Sounds like more trouble than it's worth. Also, loading a page worth of 20+ megs doesn't exactly sound appealing to me. I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to try that with photos.
Zachary has said that forum moderators already have the power to delete blog posts so why not? Since they're not regulated like every other part of the site they're exploitable and susceptible to hardcore abuse especially now that the features for are more expansive. You're already loading 20+ megs whenever you watch a video on Newgrounds, what difference does it make if it's on a userpage or the respective videopage? If you don't think anyone would try it with photos then you've never heard of the 50 Hitler post.
All I'm saying is prevention is better than cure. In the event that these new features offer room for exploitation, it'll get fixed and it won't ever happen again. Like you say, mods already have the power to delete our posts, and I think that should be enough. Also, long loading times on flash pages are tolerable. I don't think the same could be said for userpages.
I dunno man, the hygiene hypothesis would like to have a word with you on that one. If that's true then there's no problem with allowing SWF files in blogs because it'd be treated in the same capacity as the rest of the site. I dunno, the way you're laid back about the mods having that kind of power after stating that the blogs are a place for free speech comes across as kinda... contradictory. What honest difference is there in loading a flash page and a userpage? They both contain virtually the same amount of content save for a couple of image files, it's not like SWF files hangup the rest of the page when they load.
Contradictory? Maybe. I prefer to think that I adapt to the curves of this conversation. If mods already have such power, I see no reason to assign a new team. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. It's balanced right now. Nobody would care if you started a controversy in your own private space, but if blog-specific mods were to get involved, I'm afraid it'll be much like the forums.
As for displaying flashes in entries; how about when you post a link to a flash, it shows up much in the same way as on it does in a thread? That way everyone gets to see a preview icon at the very least.
Not too bad of an idea, only instead of linking to the Flash page, how about it simply loads the SWF file to the blog post after clicking the preview icon?
That's what I was thinking too. But then I remembered that flashes differ in their dimensions, and resizing them could get ugly. Newgrounds keeps data about every flash movie though. So using that, embed codes could adapt automatically for a perfect viewing experience (even though people could tinker with it). This sounds pretty flawless. Even outside of Newgrounds, these flashes could be displayed with a preview icon. The small embeddable audio players already do something similar.
